He'd thought it would be awkward, or incredibly uncomfortable, or erupt into something genuinely bad, because he's learned a long time ago to prepare for and even expect the worst in situations like this, but instead she's hugging him and he lets out a startled gasp before he's really realized he'd even opened his mouth.
