If I was going to take my own private revenge, I would have cut his throat when I found him unconscious in his room. Nobody would have known but me.

I didn't do that, because protecting my people is more important than hurting somebody else, no matter how much they've hurt me. So don't assume things about what I would and wouldn't do with that information.
