[ Because there is one! And Raven pans the camera around to see: yes, ice, places to sit around the ice, everything.

When she refocuses it on her, it's apparent that she looks slightly different from usual. She has dark hair, for one. And, for another, her skin is a subtle shade of green. ]

I didn't!

...what's skating?

[permutates]

It's like this - you have skates, which are a boot with a kind of blade on it - [ She holds up one foot, in explanation ] and you use them to glide across the ice.

[ She leaves the camera on the rail and demonstrates, doing a couple of little spins too. ]

[onlysurvivor]

A... metal blade.

[What, he's not gonna troll anybody. Much.]

[He shows up a while later. He looks over the skates before he puts them on. ]

[permutates]

Don't you dare!

[ She shouts this while she's skating around, out on the ice. Just a forewarning, Kelsier. ]

[onlysurvivor]

Clearly, you have mistaken me for someone else. I would never cause any sort of trouble.

[He'll just burn a little pewter when he first steps out onto the ice. That keeps him from falling on his ass.]

[permutates]

[ Don't mind if she stops by and gives you a little friendly shove WHAT IT'S NOT ICE SKATING IF SOMEONE ISN'T ON THEIR ASS (usually Charles) ]

[onlysurvivor]

[Flaring pewter only saves him from large bruise on his ass. So don't mind that little steel push sent your way Raven. Totally not to push your skates out from under you. He would never do that.

Now give him a minute while he figures out how to get back up. Ah, screw it. He iron pulls something above him to get him back on his feet.]

[permutates]

[ A yelp, and she goes skidding. She manages to twist her momentum around in a circle, and, just barely, stay on her feet. She throws her hands up in victory. ]

Hey, you're cheating!

[onlysurvivor]

I would never cheat.

[And look he's kinda got the hang of how to move on ice skates.]

[permutates]

Of course not.

Try pointing each of your feet a little bit outward - angles, like this.

[onlysurvivor]

I think I have it. [He does an exaggerated wobbly motion before righting himself. ]

Was this something you did frequently?

[permutates]

When it was cold. Wintertime.

[onlysurvivor]

Oh, I gathered that much. We did have seasons even if we did not have a yellow sun.

When it was in season, was it something you did frequently? [He's figured out skating backwards.]

[permutates]

You learn fast.

Oh, sometimes. We were always a little afraid that I'd lose control, and he didn't like big crowds. But I loved skating.

[onlysurvivor]

[It's not so much learning as cheating. He's using small Pushes and Pulls to help his progress. Not to mention Pewter.]

He? You mean Charles?

[permutates]

Yes. Charles.

[onlysurvivor]

Hm. [It's tempting to ask about that but he can tell it's a sensitive subject... for some reason. He skates back in her direction.]

What other things did you do for fun?

[permutates]

[ She glides out of his reach, makes a broad arc. ]

Well, not much, by the end. But when we were little, we would play around the mansion.

[onlysurvivor]

[For a second, Kelsier gets a strange look, sad almost but it fades quickly. He doesn't ask further.]

We didn't have time to play after our father found out about us.

[permutates]

Your father was the... noble, right?

[onlysurvivor]

He was. Our mother hid her skaa heritage.

[permutates]

And when he found out, it got ugly.

[onlysurvivor]

[He manages to stop dead on skates.]

When he found out Inquisitors came. They killed our mother. Marsh and I escaped and managed to hide. We were young but we had the beginnings of noble education that made us useful for thieving crews. We could imitate nobles and get into places nobody else could.

[permutates]

[ She glides up next to him, and stops. She reaches out for his hand, and squeezes it. Doesn't say anything. ]

[onlysurvivor]

[He glances down at her hand like touch is a strange feeling he forgot about until just then.]

We survived anyway.
