spam & video . 10th transformation

[ She changes in an empty cabin. She has practiced this appearance in front of the mirror until she has it perfect: hair curled, an old-style nurse's uniform like the kind she saw in America when she was a child. Earnest, soft hands, a sweet smile. She perfects it, carefully, and then tentatively steps out into the hallway.

And now she wanders, her steps soft, her hands clutched to her chest. She acts as though she has never been here before. ]

Hello?

[ video ]

Is this how you - oh! I broke it!

[ The camera faces a young woman, blonde, beautiful, wide-eyed. This transmission comes from Red's communicator. ]

…are you sure? I think I - oh, it's on me. Oh! Is my hair all right? [ Her hand flies to the curls. ]

[ OOC NOTE: Raven has decided to invent and assume an alternate personality, after the horrible stuff she did in the flood. I'm okay with her being reasonably discovered, but would like her to be able to keep up the facade in public for at least a little while. Let her experiment a little. So please talk to me first if you would like your character to figure it out!

Her pretend personality is a new inmate, from 1940s in America. An aspiring nurse. ]

[Red's in the hallway - human form, thankfully, so there's no chance of her sniffing out the truth of Raven's form. She just thinks Raven is another new person, who she gives a smile to.] Hey.

[If she could only read minds, she'd be telling Raven how she was good, too. She didn't know what a liberated woman was, but she was sure Raven could be that, as well...

But instead, she thinks top herself - this must be an inmate. She reaches out to try and gently place a hand on "Lily's" arm.]

IT's called the barge...

Looks brilliant, lovey. I see you met Red. I'm Iris - Iris Wildthyme. Eee, your timing's brilliant.

It... Um. It doesn't work like that. [she reaches out to touch the girls arm, gently.] I think you must have died.

[David just stares back, registering that he doesn't recognize here and therefore she's probably new, so - somewhat unfortunately - he's probably going to have to explain where she is and how everything works.]

Hello.
secretasshole: (I've experiments to run)

[personal profile] secretasshole 2013-11-08 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
David. Have you been briefed on what to expect in your time on board?

It's all right, miss-- I know they're alarming, these things, but they are difficult to break, you haven't hurt anything. [Bush recognizes those difficulties as being similar to his own at first trying these devices, and hastens to reassure her. She's also quite pretty, and that is an incentive in itself.]

Hey... [She's definitely taking Raven's hand, now. Clutching it.] It's okay. You're back, now...

It's. Um. It's sort of complicated.

[She took the hands, smiling. Hopefully she could explain this right...] You've been brought back. The Admiral thinks you get a second chance... [That's the nicest phrasing. It's technically true, though at times she wonders about how much the Admiral actually cares...]
shakenandlimp: (Eh?)

Oh, of course, but this is a matter of convenience. Why, it's twenty times better than signalling- [He comes to a halt, realizing that she will never have bent a signal flag onto a line and run it up, or tried to read flags in a gale.]

Well, there are times, ain't there, when it's easier simply to have a way to talk and not need to stop everyone from what they're doing?

Yes, miss. Captain William Bush, his Britannic Majesty's Royal Navy. It was 1814. [He knows well enough to add that last.]

[Bush has also learned to stifle his first protest-- that nursing is a nasty, degrading job better suited for men, and men who are not good enough to be more useful above-decks, than women. That too must be one of the things that's changed, along with better medicine.]

Dangerous work. Who are the Americans at war with, when you are from? I hope it ain't us, we are just over that.

That is right, the Prussians and Bavarians are all just 'german'-- wouldn't have credited it-- but who else, besides Italy?

[He is confused.]
