[ She changes in an empty cabin. She has practiced this appearance in front of the mirror until she has it perfect: hair curled, an old-style nurse's uniform like the kind she saw in America when she was a child. Earnest, soft hands, a sweet smile. She perfects it, carefully, and then tentatively steps out into the hallway.

And now she wanders, her steps soft, her hands clutched to her chest. She acts as though she has never been here before. ]

Hello?

[ video ]

Is this how you - oh! I broke it!

[ The camera faces a young woman, blonde, beautiful, wide-eyed. This transmission comes from Red's communicator. ]

…are you sure? I think I - oh, it's on me. Oh! Is my hair all right? [ Her hand flies to the curls. ]


[ OOC NOTE: Raven has decided to invent and assume an alternate personality, after the horrible stuff she did in the flood. I'm okay with her being reasonably discovered, but would like her to be able to keep up the facade in public for at least a little while. Let her experiment a little. So please talk to me first if you would like your character to figure it out!

Her pretend personality is a new inmate, from 1940s in America. An aspiring nurse. ]

[Red - Red is good. Raven lets her features brighten, on the sight of a fellow woman's face. (Remember Anya: I wanted to be one of those liberated women. That is Lily.]

Oh! Hello, I think I've gotten lost, or - can you tell me where I am?

[Worry, but not panic. Lily is competent. Lily isn't flighty. She is good.]

[If she could only read minds, she'd be telling Raven how she was good, too. She didn't know what a liberated woman was, but she was sure Raven could be that, as well...

But instead, she thinks top herself - this must be an inmate. She reaches out to try and gently place a hand on "Lily's" arm.]

Oh, I'm sure I wasn't near a dock. I have a deathly fear of boats.

It... Um. It doesn't work like that. [she reaches out to touch the girls arm, gently.] I think you must have died.

[permutates]

[Her mouth forms a perfect 'o' of shock.]

I remember, I was just in the hospital basement. I was looking for the - oh, what was it. And I heard a noise...

[canfindrope]

Hey... [She's definitely taking Raven's hand, now. Clutching it.] It's okay. You're back, now...

It's. Um. It's sort of complicated.

[permutates]

All right. I'm listening.

[She takes Red's hand in both of hers, earnest.]

[canfindrope]

[She took the hands, smiling. Hopefully she could explain this right...] You've been brought back. The Admiral thinks you get a second chance... [That's the nicest phrasing. It's technically true, though at times she wonders about how much the Admiral actually cares...]

The Admiral? What Admiral?

[ She lets a little fear leak into her voice, now. ]

He's the one in charge... The one who brought us here.

Can you just - start from the beginning?

[ ooc: want to skip/blur long explanation and go to the point where she has more or less heard about the Barge? ]

Red watched the girl talk with a sense of pride, hovering around the edges. It wasn't often that she talked people through it. Now she was just watching her friend.

[permutates]

"This place really is awfully strange."

She rests her elbows on the table, and her chin on her hands. "Thank you for being so nice."

[canfindrope]

"Everyone's new once," she points out, smiling a little tightly. Come on. Let her take care of you a bit.

[permutates]

"I guess that's true." A pause, then - "Does that mean you wished someone helped you, once upon a time?"

[canfindrope]

"Someone did," she admitted. "Sort of... They... weren't very good at it." They tried to help her with her wolf, in theory - but mostly they just treated her like a monster who couldn't be trusted.

It's not a happy memory,

[permutates]

She covers Red's hand.

"Sometimes help turns into someone telling you who you need to be," she says. "And that ain't right."

[canfindrope]

She gives the hand a squeeze back, surprised but comforted.

"Come on. I'll show you around."

[permutates]

"Is the ship terribly big?" she asks, tentatively, rising to her feet.

[canfindrope]

"You get used to it," she promised, smiling a little. "It's nice."

[permutates]

"How many levels?" she asks, sliding her arm into Red's. "Are they called levels? Floors?"

[canfindrope]

"I think you can say either," she promised, taking the arm. It was nice having contact like this, she thought. Showing someone around.

"There's a lot. But most of it's just rooms, so..."

[permutates]

"What else would there be, but rooms?" asks Lily, sounding bewildered.
