[ She greets the barge with a smile. Her appearance is 'normal' - normal for a human. No blue skin or yellow eyes in sight. ]

Hi. [ And a little wave. She regrets it immediately. That's kind of embarrassing, isn't it? And not something that she should be doing, because she's here for a purpose. ] I'm Raven.

I heard a few of my friends were here, so I thought I'd come… help. I'm a warden.

And I'm here because I really believe that even if you're trapped, you still should have a chance to figure out who you are. I think that's important.

[ She considered her approach to this for a long time. There are a lot of things that they should probably say to each other, and she's supposed to be responsible here. She can't just avoid him, as much as she wants to, while she gets her head together. ]

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but if you're hoping to be paired with an Inmate whose biggest problem is a crisis of identity, you might be waiting a while.

[ Well. She doesn't really consider herself here to redeem an inmate, so that doesn't faze her much. ]

Are you a mutant?

It'd be 'metahuman' where I'm from, but to all intents and purposes? Yes.

[ It's easier to talk with mutants than humans. Metahuman sounds a little better than mutant, anyway.

She lets her transformation go, a cascade of skin from pale to blue. ]

[Ivy tilts her head and smiles, genuinely appreciative.]

[ And still: that reaction is rare enough that each time it happens, it feels good. ]

I wanted to make sure. So that when I show what I am, I know if I have to be ready to defend myself.

There's enough of us here that we may not even be in the minority. Mutants of various kinds, aliens, people whose definition of 'humanity' might not match ours. I don't doubt you'll have to defend yourself someday, but it won't be because of what you are.

[ She nods. She's listening. ]

Since Erik is an inmate, I didn't... know what to expect.

I won't comment on what might have made Erik an inmate. I'm sure you know him better than I do. Still, the empowered among us seem to be fairly evenly divided between both camps.

I guess that means this place will take a little more figuring out.

Not at all. I have some biochemical quirks, but this is what I'm known for.

[She lifts one hand and the vine wrapped around her forearm shoots out tendrils that wrap around her fingers, throwing out new leaves and forming buds that burst into flower.]

[ She breaks into a smile - a real one, this time. ]

[She reaches out, letting her new flower shoot creep off her arm and anchor itself elsewhere.]

I can make up a face. It doesn't have to be someone else's. Though it can be.

No. It doesn't.

I rarely bother. Metahumans aren't the political issue in my world that mutants are in yours, but I've been told time and time again how much happier I would be if I were more like everyone else. If I took drugs to suppress my abilities and scraped and bowed to the men who destroy everything I stand for.

But I don't doubt I'm preaching to the choir.

Someone offered a cure to make me look normal. Just my appearance, my ordinary appearance, not affecting my powers.
